Police say they have one suspect and two persons of interest in custody after an emergency lockdown at Central Connecticut State University, concluding a frightening afternoon that saw students confined to their dorms and classrooms while officers flooded the campus.

Authorities with campus and New Britain police say that the ordeal began when multiple callers reported seeing a man wearing camouflage gear, possibly carrying a handgun and a sword-type weapon on campus.

Within moments, police officers swarmed the area. The university's website was replaced with a red-lettered message warning students to "stay in place" and to keep away from windows. The school's official Twitter account sent a barrage of messages updating students and faculty on the lockdown.

Police say the suspect in custody is 21-year-old David Kyem, a senior at CCSU. He is also the son of a CCSU geography professor.

Police say they found the suspect on the fourth floor of James Hall, along with the two persons of interest. Police say that no weapons have been recovered, but they are still investigating.

Authorities are also investigating whether the incident was possibly sparked by a Halloween costume. No charges have been filed at this time.

No one was injured during the incident.

University President Dr. Jack Miller was visibly relieved at the news conference, not long after police had given the all-clear. "From a personal standpoint I can simply say that in this situation, our prayers were answered," he said.

All classes were canceled for the rest of the day, but the lockdown has been lifted.

More than 12,000 students attend the university, which has a 182-acre campus.
