Police say they have arrested a man for leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated after he crashed a vehicle in Lindenhurst.
According to police, Anthony Lacorte was driving a 2015 GMC Sierra when he crashed the vehicle into a parked car on Lido Parkway at approximately 11:40 p.m. Wednesday.
The GMC lost a tire in the crash, but Lacorte continued driving. The sparks from the tire rim driving on pavement caused the GMC to catch fire at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and South 4th St., where Lacorte exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
Officers apprehended and arrested Lacorte a short distance away, police say.
Lacorte, 37, of Massapequa, was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
