Four businesses in Westbury were burglarized early Sunday, Nassau police say.
They say it happened around 2:30 a.m. when a man used a flower pot to break into a Pizza Hut on Old Country Road. He then allegedly stole the cash register.
The suspect then allegedly walked to the nearby Source Mall and took cash registers from three stores.
Jeff Raman, who owns Everything Christmas at the mall, says he discovered the register was taken when he came into work a few hours after the burglary. He says it forced him to lose business for most of the day.
"Unfortunately we missed out on a lot because it was technically a crime scene until almost 3 p.m.," Raman says. "So we couldn't open until they were all done doing what they do--taking pictures and fingerprints and all of that stuff."
Police believe the suspect is a man in his 20s. He was wearing a light-colored long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, a blue baseball hat, black sneakers and was carrying a gray backpack.
Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
