A Bridgeport man is facing charges relating to a fatal crash on I-95 in Stamford, state police say.

It happened near Exit 7 at 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

Police say Jawora Davidson lost control of the Honda Prelude he was driving and veered into the right shoulder. He then veered to the left, crossed all three travel lanes and collided with a concrete jersey barrier in the median shoulder.

The impact of the crash caused the Honda to land in the center lane facing north. A Ford Transit that was traveling in the center lane then hit the Honda head-on. The driver of the Ford was taken to Stamford Hospital with injuries.

Davidson was not injured but a passenger in his car, who police have not identified, died at Stamford Hospital.

Police were able to identify on scene that Davison was at fault for the crash. They say his speed was slurred, his eyes were watery and bloodshot, he had poor coordination, was disoriented and his breath smelled of alcohol.

Davidson also failed multiple field sobriety tests.

Police later determined Davidson's blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

He was charged with operating under the influence and failure to maintain a proper lane.

He appeared in court Monday.
