A local woman was stabbed to death inside a basement apartment on Grand Avenue early Saturday morning by her husband, police say.
?In July, he struck her in the face with a beer bottle, and she obtained an order of protection,? says Detective Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick, of the Suffolk County Police Department. ?She has been out of the house and not living with him since that time.?
Investigators say the victim, 47-year-old Lori Titus, was estranged from her husband, Jimmy Titus. Despite the order of protection, Titus allegedly tracked his wife down to the apartment she was sharing with a friend and attacked her.
"Apparently, after she was being stabbed, she started to yell for help,? Fitzpatrick says. ?Her acquaintance came to her aid, as did the landlord and another person in the house, and they were able to restrain him until the police arrived.?
The victim was rushed to nearby Southside Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead from multiple stab wounds. Titus was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree murder. He is expected to be arraigned Sunday in Central Islip.
