Suffolk police have confirmed that a woman's body was found on an island in the Great South Bay Sunday morning.
They say the woman's body was found around 8:10 a.m. At this time, homicide detectives investigating the case say they believe the woman's death was non-criminal in nature.
Ray Freiermuth and his friend made the discovery while they were duck hunting and called 911. The hunters say it appeared to be that of an elderly woman.
It comes amid a search for a missing woman. According to Suffolk police, 88-year-old Ann Costa was last seen back on Jan. 13 outside of her home on Mariner's Way in Copiauge. Her family believes that the body that was found may be her.
Costa's family has been searching for her nonstop. After nearly two weeks of questions, they're hoping police can finally provide some answers about what happened to their loved one.
Police have not confirmed the woman's identity.
