A Bay Shore woman is facing charges after police say she hit a teenaged bicyclist with her car Saturday afternoon in Babylon before speeding off.
The incident occurred on West Main Street near Thompson Avenue.
Police say they've arrested the driver involved in that crash, 21-year-old Jocelyn Nunez Martinez.
According to authorities, Nunez Martinez was driving a 2011 Nissan pick-up truck eastbound on West Main when she hit 15-year-old Jeremy Schaffer, of Babylon, who was on his bike just before 5 p.m.
Nunez Martinez then took off, police say, but officers caught up with her a short time later at the corner of Fire Island Avenue and Louis Circle.
Schaffer was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital.
A friend of Schaeffer told News 12 he and a group of friends were nearby and heard the impact of that crash. He said another friend told him that Schaeffer had been hit and they were in disbelief until they saw him on the ground.
Nunez Martinez has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a forged instrument - which police say was a forged temporary registration, as well as multiple summonses for traffic violations.
She will be arraigned at a later date.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
