Police: Arrest made in hit-and-run that injured Suffolk officer
Police say they have arrested a teen in the hit-and-run crash that injured a Suffolk officer in Brentwood.
Investigators say Jaheem Funderburke, 17, struck the officer Friday night while he was responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Peterson Street.
Funderburke then allegedly took off. Police say Funderburke was involved in another crash Saturday night on Gordon Road in Medford.
Funderburke and his two teenage passengers, Kalithe Bell and Kenya Uceda, allegedly ran from that scene on foot.
News 12 is told all three were tracked down in the woods.
Bell and Uceda were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Funderburke was taken to court Sunday morning to be arraigned on multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, assault and reckless endangerment.
Officials say the officer, a 16-year veteran of the police department, was treated and released from the hospital. He was not seriously hurt.
News 12 went to Funderburke's home in Medford and spoke with his mother who declined to go on camera. She said off camera that her son is just a teenager who didn't mean to hurt anyone and apologizes to the community.
