Police say an arrest has been made in the string of dorm break-ins reported at SUNY Stony Brook University.
Police say they have arrested sophomore David Im in connection with several early morning break-ins at Schick, Eisenhower and Dewey colleges. They say Im entered as many as seven student dorm rooms through open sliding glass porch doors or unlocked main doors.
In some cases, female students woke up to find a man in their room. Police say wallets and keys have been reported stolen.
Officials say Im was caught on security cameras, but they are still trying to determine a motive behind his alleged break-ins.
Michael Kutzma says he lives in the same dorm as Im and knows him well.
"He seems like a great guy, seemed like a nice kid," said Kutzma. "I spoke to him, I played basketball with him."
Even though university police believe they've put a stop to these latest burglaries, some students say they are not taking any chances and are reexamining the the security of their rooms.
Im has been charged with second-degree burglary, possession of stolen property and trespassing.
