A 72-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Amityville while on a video call, and his son is now in custody, police say.
Authorities say it happened on Dixon Avenue, where Dwight Powers was taking part in a Zoom video call with about 25 others when someone saw him fall. That person then called police.
"I saw the victim was breathing heavily. All of a sudden he went out of the camera's view," said one person, who wished to not be identified. "A bald naked man ripped his sheets off of his bed and placed them on the floor as if he was covering something up."
When police arrived, they say they found the man had been fatally stabbed.
Police say the victim's son, Thomas Scully-Powers, fled the scene but was later apprehended and is now in police custody.
Scully-Powers has been charged with second-degree murder.
