Police: 72-year-old man fatally struck by hit-and-run driver on Southern State Parkway

When the troopers arrived, police say Vincent Lashley, 72, of Queens, was observed lying in the right lane shoulder of the road dead.

State police say a man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on the Southern State Parkway in Valley Stream on Wednesday.
According to police, the incident happened near Exit 15 around 3:51 a.m.
Police responded to reports of a male walking in the roadway.
When the troopers arrived, police say Vincent Lashley, 72, of Queens, was observed lying in the right lane shoulder of the road dead.
A preliminary investigation determined that Lashley was walking on the Southern State Parkway when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle that left the scene.
Police say they are looking for any video footage available from cameras on the Southern State Parkway in that area.
Lashley had been treated at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and was released on Tuesday. It is not clear what happened between the hospital release and the hit-and-run.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Collision Reconstruction Unit and Forensic Identification Unit responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation.
