Southampton Town Police say four suspected thieves threw stolen merchandise from a moving vehicle as they tried to flee police.
Investigators say two women entered the TJ Maxx in Bridgehampton, filled shopping carts with items and left without paying Thursday afternoon.
The suspects took off in a sedan with New Jersey license plates.
Police tried stopping the vehicle, but the driver sped off while passengers tossed stolen clothing from the windows.
The vehicle drove west on Montauk Highway, before turning around and heading back east. The car ultimately crashed with a police cruiser near Hayground Road.
Four women were arrested. They’ve been identified by police as 25-year-old Tnia Dickerson, of Bellport, 27-year-old Patrice Gordon, of Selden, 20-year-old Ilaysia Keller, of Amityville, and 24-year-old and Elisha Wisdom, of Hempstead.
Police helped retrieve the stolen items from the side of the road and the suspects’ car. The merchandise was valued at $1,500.
The suspects were charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property. Patrice Gordon was also charged with aggravated driving without a license and reckless driving.
All four suspects were given desk appearance tickets. They’re expected to appear in court at a later date.
