Four people are facing weapon charges after being rescued from a car crash early Thursday, police say.
News 12 is told it happened around 1 a.m. on Commack Road in Dix Hills when the driver of a BMW lost control, struck a tree and flipped over.
Officers say they tried to pull the vehicle over on Route 231 for speeding before the crash.
Police tell News 12 they received a loaded handgun from the car, oxycodone and cocaine.
"While the BMW was engulfed with fire there were numerous shots fired - that was due to the loose ammunition inside the vehicle," says Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison.
Three of the suspects will face a judge Friday.
The fourth will be arraigned when they are released from the hospital.
