Three suspected gang members were charged with attempted murder Wednesday after allegedly beating and stabbing another reputed gang member, then handcuffing him and holding him hostage in a bathtub.
Police say the 27-year-old victim entered a home on Jedwood Place in Valley Stream on Monday night to retrieve clothes for his girlfriend.
While inside, police say he was beaten, pistol-whipped, handcuffed and placed in a bathtub, where he was stabbed 12 times with a steak knife.
Investigators say the suspects then drove Assay to Midvale Lane and kicked him out of the vehicle with no pants, shoes and his hands still cuffed behind his back. Assay walked to nearby Franklin Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
The suspects are identified as Johnathan Faneytt, 21, of Valley Stream; Jesus V. Maldonado, 22, of West Hempstead; and Jorge Romero, 19, of Valley Stream. The suspects are said to be known members of the Latin Kings gang.
The suspects were arraigned Wednesday and are facing charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of a controlled substance, among other charges.
Assay is listed in critical but stable condition.
No bail was set for the suspects. They are expected back in court on Thursday.
