Police say three men have been arrested after drugs were found
in an Amityville deli on Saturday night.
Police say in response to community complaints, officers were
conducting a State Liquor Authority investigation in conjunction with the Town
of Babylon and the Amityville Village Building Inspector and Fire Marshal at
Shalom Delight Deli, located at 528 Broadway.
That is when police say two patrons were found to be inside
the store in possession of cocaine in clear view at approximately 10 p.m.
According to police, Juan Hernandez and Manuel
Martinez-Quintanilla were both found to have drugs while inside the store.
Hernandez, 34, undomiciled, was charged with criminal possession of a
controlled substance. Martinez-Quintanilla, 31, of West Babylon, was charged
with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Both were held and arraigned in court on Sunday.
During the investigation, unclaimed drugs were also found on
the floor of the deli.
The owner of the deli, Sharon Solemani-Sharifian, was charged
with criminal nuisance for allowing people to gather in the store with the
intention of using drugs.
Solemani-Sharifian, 53, of East Northport, was released on an
appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 17.
The Village
of Amityville issued two summonses to an employee of the business for village
code violations.
The business
has been referred to the State Liquor Authority for further investigation.
