Two Valley Stream North High School students have been arrested after Nassau police found them in possession of a black BB gun.
Police responded to calls to Valley Stream North High School Wednesday morning after a 14-year-old boy and 17-year-old boy were found with the alleged gun.
Police say the 17-year-old allegedly pointed the BB gun at two students.
The 14-year-old is facing a weapons charge and is due in court later this month.
The 17-year-old will face a judge today in family court. He is facing weapons and menacing charges.
In a statement sent Wednesday, schools Superintendent Dr. Wayne Loper said:
"Earlier today, building administration at North High School was made aware that a student had come to school with what was determined to be a BB gun. Law enforcement was immediately notified and the BB gun was confiscated by school officials. The student's parents were also contacted. Nassau County police officers arrived at the school and interviewed the student. It is important to note that all students are safe, and based on both the district and police investigations of the incident, at no point were students at any risk of harm or danger. In compliance with student privacy regulations, no additional information can be shared at this time. The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We take situations like this very seriously and will take disciplinary action based on our Student Code of Conduct and to the full extent of the law against any student found bringing a weapon of any kind into our schools or onto school grounds.
