Two homes were burglarized in Mastic Beach within one week of each other, according to police.
Investigators say a man entered one home through an unlocked window on Oct. 10 and assaulted a 78-year-old woman at about 4 a.m.
Then in a separate incident, police say, on Tuesday a man broke a window and entered another home just a few blocks away and assaulted a 75-year-old woman just before 1 a.m.
Police believe both assaults were committed by the same man, and they were able to get one of the victims to sit down with them to provide a description of the suspect for an artist rendering.
John Rowan, the chief of detectives for the Suffolk County Police Department provided a description of the suspect.
“Both victims describe the suspect as a dark-skinned male, 30 years of age, 5 feet, 2 inches tall to 5 feet, six inches tall, with an athletic build wearing a hooded sweatshirt.”
According to police, both women were alone at the time of the assaults. They were transported to area hospitals for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police are asking anyone with information that may lead to an arrest to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
