Police say two people were injured Monday morning after a woman drove her SUV through an H&R Block in Bohemia.
Officers say the crash happened shortly before noon when a woman mistook the gas pedal for the brake on her SUV in the parking lot of the business on Sunrise Highway.
There was a couple inside the building at the time and needed to be rescued.
Resident Roger Farris says he saw the front of the building come down on the two people inside the store, who he described as an elderly couple. He says he rushed over to help.
“I see a car flying through the air, go through the window. I just reacted and ran over. The wall was on the two elderly people inside. I made sure the lady inside the SUV was OK. She was in shock,” Farris says.
He says he backed that SUV away from the storefront, went inside through the broken glass and cared for the couple until first responders got to the scene.
The couple was taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK. The driver was not injured and no charges are being filed.
The entire front window and door of the H&R Block building were smashed and they've since been boarded up.
A similar accident happened in the same shopping center two weeks ago when someone drove through the front window of an Auto Zone.
