A man suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross East Main Street in Riverhead on Tuesday around 5 p.m.

Police say a 73-year-old driver struck the man as he tried to cross the road.

Responding officers found the man lying in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. Suffolk County Aviation crews airlifted him to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Police say the driver remained at the scene of the crash.
