Police say two people were found dead in a home on Milford Lane in Glen Cove yesterday.

Authorities say Adult Protective Services went to check on the people living inside the home, and no one answered the door. Then, firefighters found the bodies.

Police say a 58-year-old male was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It's not confirmed how the 84-year-old female that was also found inside died. Police believe it may have been from natural causes.

Police tell News 12 Long Island they believe the elderly woman had been dead for more than a week. It is unknown how long the male had been dead.

Police have not released the names of the deceased or their relationship. Neighbors tell News 12 they were mother and son.

Authorities say they have received calls about the home in the past and say close to 40 cats were removed from the premises a few years ago.

Police say they are waiting for family members to identify the bodies before they release the victims' names to the public.
