A 59-year-old woman was found stabbed to death inside her Hempstead home Tuesday night and her nephew has been charged with her murder.
Police say Taracker McClendon was fatally stabbed around 9 p.m. inside her home on Harvard Street.
Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick says 24-year-old Kevin Pratt, of Hempstead, was still on the scene and taken into custody.
Neighbors told News 12 Long Island that McClendon had called her daughter to say she was afraid and no longer wanted her nephew in the house.
They say Pratt was having psychological issues but didn't elaborate. Detectives would only say that police have previously been called to the house for other incidents involving the family.
Pratt was charged with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Hempstead court.
