Police say one person is dead and four others were injured after a car crashed into a pizzeria Monday night.
The four-car crash happened just before 10 p.m. on Larkfield Road in East Northport.
Police say 52-year-old Karla Kovach was driving a 2008 Kia northbound on Larkfield Road near Fifth Avenue, when her vehicle struck a 2008 Nissan that was slowing in traffic at 9:50 p.m.
The Nissan, driven by Darin Costello, struck the side of the pizzeria, causing damage to the restaurant. After striking the Nissan, the Kia spun into the rear of a 2013 Mercedes driven by Elias Francois, which then caused the Mercedes to crash into the rear of a 2011 Cadillac, which was stopped on Larkfield Road.
Kovach, of East Northport, was transported to Huntington Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. It's the same hospital where she worked for nearly three decades as an EKG technician.
Costello, 37, of Northport, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries.
Francois, 46, of East Northport, and two children passengers were transported to Huntington Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Cadillac, 25-year-old Anthony Nullet , of East Northport, and his passenger were not injured.
The pizzeria was just about to close at the time of the accident. There were no customers inside. Police say the one employee who was working was not injured.
Police say the Kia was impounded for a safety inspection.
