Many Long Island residents have had to deal with frozen pipes in their homes amid the current deep freeze that has settled in across the region.
Roto-Rooter plumber Bill Nason recommends disconnecting any outside hoses in case water inside freezes, adding insulation to close up any drafty areas in your home and keeping the thermostats up to at least 70 degrees.
"In the wintertime when it gets cold, cold like this – just forget about the oil bill,” says Nason. “Just jack up the heat because this could literally be days of chasing leaks."
Nason also says to allow faucets to drip, especially if there has been a problem before or if the sink is on an outside wall.
