Potholes have been popping up on roadways across Long Island, and while drivers do their best to avoid them, they bring big business for some Long Island auto shops.
Thomas Mumolo, of the Tire Discount Center in Levittown, says all the divets and holes have his shop busier than ever. Customers have been coming in with bent rims and blown tires. The shop has amassed a wall of dozens of busted tires that fell victim to the roads.
At the Meineke Car Care Center down the road, mechanics have been busy fixing other damage that potholes cause to cars. Stabilizer links and ball joints are at risk when cars bang into the craters.
Repair crews were spotted filling potholes on Saturday on the Wantagh State Parkway, the Northern State and the Meadowbrook Parkway. State highway officials say they expect most potholes to be filled by Tuesday.
