The superintendent of Plainedge schools says students who played football at the high school on Saturday with a child who has tested positive for COVID-19 must quarantine before coming back to school.
In a letter to families in the district, Superintendent Edward Salina Jr. says that upwards of 15 high school and middle school students were playing football on the field, and some were reportedly sharing water bottles and food with each other. Salina says any student who participated on the field -- and their siblings -- must quarantine for a period of 14 days and be tested prior to returning to school.
A staffer will be reaching out to speak with all children identified as playing on the field this weekend.
"What is most important at this moment in time is parents speak to their children to determine if they were at the field playing this weekend, and then they please notify my office as soon as possible," Salina says in the letter. "Please speak with your child and feel free to text or email me any and all details regarding this matter including who your child recalls was at the field. Our highest priority at the moment is to identify any and all children that participated, plus their siblings, and have them stay home.
