Suffolk police say they had to use deadly force against a pit bull in Bay Shore Friday.
Police say they were called to a home after three pit bulls attacked a pit bull puppy. The incident was captured on camera by a neighbor who did not want to be named.
As an officer approached one of the attacking pit bulls, it showed its teeth and lunged at him, prompting two fatal shots.
The puppy being attacked died from its injuries. The two dogs involved in the attack were taken to the Town of Islip Animal Shelter.
Carla Gonzalez, owner of the dog that was shot, says the dogs were able to escape their yards by jumping over a fence. She says the dogs had never attacked another dog or a person before.
