A News 12 report has helped reunite a Nassau resident with a precious item lost during Superstorm Sandy.
Leah Welsh, of Massapequa, was trying to find the owner of an old wedding photo that mysteriously washed up on her lawn after the Oct. 2012 storm. The photo was buried in a pile of debris when Welsh found it. She made attempts to find the owner of the photo in the days after Sandy, but was unsuccessful.
Welsh put the photo away for two years, only to find it again earlier this week. Welsh contacted News 12 in another attempt to find its owner.
After watching the report, Sue Fischetti, 86, contacted Welsh to claim the photo.
"I couldn't believe it, after so many years, that someone found the picture," Fischetti. She says the photo is a tender moment on her wedding day with her father back in 1949.
Fischetti plans to restore the picture and hang it on her bedroom wall.
