Long Island schools honored their graduating seniors with car parades as pandemic restrictions forced cancellations of scheduled celebrations.
Administrators, principals and staff of the Freeport School district held a congratulatory parade for the 534 students of their class of 2020.
Dozens of cars drove by the homes of high schools seniors to celebrate their accomplishments.
"I felt really bad," says Freeport Principal Joseph Mille. "All of the moment that they missed out on. I wanted to personalize the experience and I want them to know that we love them and we care about them."
Faculty from Our Lady of Mercy Academy also lined the roads leading up to campus as students returned to get their caps and gowns.
Graduation will be held next weeks on the front steps of the main building.
