Prosecutors say 18 people are charged with killing two victims, as well as allegedly carrying out a series of crimes, including assault and armed robbery.

According to the Suffolk District Attorney's Office, the defendants were getting their guns from a police detective in Westchester.

Officials say this alleged gang operated out of an area in Riverhead referred to as the "4 block" from the Doctors Path Apartments to River Pointe Apartments on East Main Street.

Over a span of four years, prosecutors say gang members committed multiple crimes, including transporting and selling guns and ammo.

Members have also been charged in the murder of a high school student in Mastic Beach in 2021.

Prosecutors say the defendants also shot a Flanders man in the head in January of 2023. The victim later died.

The Mount Vernon police department confirms detective Kyren Braunskill is also in custody.

The Suffolk DA says he sold the guns the Riverhead gang members used to commit their crimes.
