Several moments of tension broke out between protesters and counter-protesters along College Road on Friday ahead of President Donald Trump's arrival at Rockland Community College.
As the president’s helicopter and accompanying aircraft descended onto the campus, voices from the street grew louder - both in favor and against it.
Witnesses observed a brief shoving incident between individuals in the crowd, which law enforcement quickly moved in to de‑escalate.
It's unclear who it involved and why at this time.
Protesters stood for hours on the sidewalk, with signs, and stating why they did not support President Trump, Rep. Mike Lawler or the event taking place at the college.
Crowds also formed early outside the community college gym, where supporters were lined up for several hundred feet before the doors opened.
Pierre Andre of Spring Valley, who identified himself as a Haitain immigrant, said he was eager to attend.
"See the big man, Mister President Donald Trump... I'm feeling excited. You don't see me?"
Another attendee holding a split American and Israel flag said, "One thing for sure. President Trump was the best and is the best and let's hope he can continue on being the best of the best."
