A new report have given Long Island?s South Shore bays a failing grade.
Peconic Baykeeper Kevin McAllister released the first of what he hopes will become an annual ?State of Our Bays? report Tuesday. McAllister says things like storm water runoff and fertilizer from waterfront homes have ruined the bays and killed much of the marine life.
Environmentalists say the report shows that more money needs to be spent to protect Long Island waterways. McAllister says it could take decades to restore the bays to their previous condition, but adds it is not an impossible task. He says there is a lot of work ahead.
