The New York State Police Chiefs Benevolent Association delivered sandwiches to the Coast Guard station in Jones Beach Monday to thank service members.
It also served as a welcome party for the new officer in charge, Chief Dave Turner.
Turner encouraged Long Islanders to stay safe and maintain social distancing as we head into boating season.
"We're trying to encourage people to maintain social distancing if they can, to check their safety gear, wear their life jackets. It's actually National Safe Boating Week this week so we're really trying to encourage people to stay safe on the water," said Turner.
Turner previously served at Jones Beach as a young Coast Guardsman before leaving to continue his career.
