Paws of War hosted a homecoming for dogs rescued by service members deployed in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Organizers say service members come across these animals in hostile environments and experiencing dehydration and starvation.

But through compassion, soldiers form a bond with them.

For dogs like Snow and Dante, Paws of War in Nesconset is just their first stop before being reunited with the soldier's family. With soldiers still undergoing deployment, they try to find dogs, like Meeka, a forever loving home.

Volunteers with Paws of War say they see how the lives of the animals change in just a few weeks.

With more dogs and cats on the way, Paws of War is committed to honoring their soldiers' wishes.

They're seeking veterans, first responders, local active military members or even families looking for an addition to their home.
