Long Island homeowners say they are disheartened over promised tax relief in the form of rebate checks that will never materialize.
Governor Pataki (R-NY) has announced the state Legislature?s $115 billion budget needs to be cut down. Pataki axed about $2 billion, including extra STAR rebates and child tax credits.
Many Long Islanders say they are being bogged down by property and school taxes and any help would be appreciated. Some experts add that Long Islanders would lose either way, saying any rebates received would have been paid for in the future through increased debt or higher taxes.
