A camper at Park Shore Country Day Camp in Dix Hills has tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in the closure of the camp until Monday.
Camp director Bob Budah says the affected camper's first day with them was Monday, and learned of the positive test Thursday.
The positive test comes after multiple staff members at the camp tested positive, but Budah says this case is unrelated to those.
"As required of all campers, they were only permitted to enter and participate after all of the pre-camp medical screening temperature and symptom checks were met, and the requisite forms were submitted," says Budah.
The camp says once the case was made known, they contacted the New York State Public Health Department to begin contact tracing procedures.
The camp was closed early Thursday and will remain closed until Monday.
While closed, the camp will perform additional cleaning and disinfecting of all surfaces and camp equipment.
