Parents rally against Suffolk County's decision to house sex offenders in Ronkonkoma's Rodeway Inn
Parents rallied in Ronkonkoma today against a hotel being used to house convicted sex offenders.
The protest was held outside the Rodeway Inn on Veterans Highway. Participants say the state sex offender registry has sent electronic alerts indicating sex offenders have checked into the building.
County officials say the offenders were placed at the inn by the Department of Social Services for temporary housing, but state officials say the offenders are no longer there. To boot, state officials say offenders must report any change in address within 10 days of moving, which may have caused the mix-up.
Legislator Tom Cilmi (R-District 10) says the county is going to limit the number of offenders it places in the hotel to avoid similar confusion.
