With
schools either closed or on a hybrid teaching model, home schooling has
been gaining much attention as an option for parents.
Julie Lutz, of Eastern Suffolk BOCES, says home schooling has lots of rules and checks by the school district and state Education Department to make sure kids are getting a quality education.
“Home schooling is a pretty rigorous process and parents who choose to do that really have to go through all of those steps,” she says.

model that her 9-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son say they are enjoying.
LaGrega,
a full-time fitness professional, made their learning space look just like it
would if they were inside their own classroom.
Under
New York state law, she must follow some guidelines and identify her
curriculums. LaGrega says she has been helped by other parents online who have built a community for those who are home schooling.
Her
children say they miss their friends but are enjoying the mother/teacher
experience.
