About 100 children and parents rallied tonight in an effort to save full-day kindergarten in the Sachem Central School District.

Sachem's Board of Education proposed a new budget with a tax cap levy of 3.14 percent. The budget cuts full-day kindergarten to half-day in order to fill a $6 million budget gap.

Parents are hoping the rally will help the district get the green-light for the $1.2 million in state aid needed to keep full-day kindergarten.

Organizers say they've collected more than 300 signatures on a petition that they plan on sending to Albany.
