Temperatures topped 90 degrees Monday, breaking records on Long Island and breaking a sweat for those who had to earn their wages outside in the heat.

An ozone alert was in effect through 10 p.m., but that didn't faze Cezmi Derelioglu, who owns a gas station in Melville. As his customers sat in their air conditioned vehicles, he wiped the sweat off his brow and filled tank after tank.

His trick to staying cool? Derelioglu says he makes time to shower in the middle of the day.

And whenever customers say they feel for him for having to work in the heat, his answer is the same: "Whatever God gives, I respect."

Monday's high temperature of 91 degrees recorded at MacArthur Airport topped the previous record-high for the day of 88 degrees, set back in 1988.

Derelioglu and other Long Islanders who work outdoors will face more of the same on Tuesday -- highs will be around 90 degrees before late-afternoon showers and storms roll through.
