State officials on the East End surveyed a road Wednesday leading into Orient Beach State Park that was washed out in the weekend nor'easter.

The powerful storm washed away 15 feet of the roadway and about 300 feet of the beachfront.

George Gorman, with New York State Parks, says it will cost about $1 million to fix. He says Orient Beach State Park was the only state park of the 15 on Long Island that took a hit from the storm.

It will remain closed until the road is repaired.

Portions of the roadway into the park that were damaged during Superstorm Sandy and then repaired were not affected by last week's storm.

Gorman says he is hoping the repairs can be made over the next few months with a target date of reopening sometime after the New Year.

“We see about 350,000 visitors each year…We want to get the park up and running as quickly as we can,” says Gorman.
