Organizers of the
Oyster Festival have announced that they have decided to cancel the event due to surges in the delta variant.
The festival, which usually fills the streets towards Teddy Roosevelt Park, is instead planned for October 2022.
"Out of an abundance of caution regarding the serious recent surges of the highly contagious delta variant of COVID 19, the Rotary Club of Oyster Bay and the Oyster Bay Charitable Fund have decided to postpone the Oyster Festival scheduled for Oct. 16 and 17, 2021. The health and well-being of the residents of our beloved OBEN community and the festival attendees is our primary concern. We will concentrate our efforts on the triumphant return of this iconic festival on Oct. 15 and 16, 2022. We look forward to seeing you all then!"
One longtime Oyster Bay resident says she has been going for decades and usually has a big party. She's disappointed that it won't be happening.
This year would have marked the 38th annual Oyster Festival.
