To commemorate the end of World War II, Old Bethpage Village Restoration is offering battle re-enactments of the time period.
Organizers of the event say they hope to give residents a glimpse of soldiers' lives during the war, and show how their sacrifices have led to the freedoms enjoyed today.
Many of the participants were not war veterans, but have family members who were.
Michael Scarabino, of Melville, says he takes great pride in participating in the re-enactments because his great-uncle fought in WWII.
"I've come to appreciate the legacy that we've been carrying on and I look forward to doing that for the rest of my life," he says. "It's a true honor."
