Officials are investigating an oil spill in the Peconic River.Someone noticed the spill Sunday and called 911 to report it to police. The Department of Environmental Conservation, the Suffolk County Health Department and the Peconic Baykeeper are all on scene and investigating. The DEC has measures in place to prevent the spill from spreading and to collect samples. The Peconic Baykeeper says there really isn't much of a threat to animals, partly because the population this time of year is thin.DEC representatives say once samples are tested they should know where the oil came from.
