With the Nassau school zone speed cameras unanimously repealed by legislators, officials will need to decide what to do with the cameras.
One idea is to move the now inactive speed cameras to roadways that statistically have the highest number of traffic accidents, such as Sunrise Highway and Hempstead Turnpike.
Another area that may see a camera is a 9-mile stretch of Jerusalem Avenue from Hempstead to North Amityville. A Newsday analysis found that five people were killed in 81 speed-related accidents from 2009 to 2013 on the roadway.
Even though the speed camera program is now canceled, the county says drivers will still have to pay tickets they have already received.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has said he will "never" use speed cameras in Suffolk because of the public opposition.
