Nassau fire officials say pepper spray is to blame for an evacuation of a building in Hempstead Thursday.
Authorities say a hazmat team responded to the apartment building at 250 Fulton Ave. Thursday afternoon.
They say someone released pepper spray in the building, causing eye and upper respiratory irritation for some people in the area.
Officials say seven people were taken to the hospital, but only two accepted medical attention.
