A Freeport family who recently lost their father got a holiday surprise from village officials on Christmas Eve.
Nearly three weeks after her husband's mysterious death, Nixtia Easy still doesn't know what happened -- and still doesn't have the body of her husband.
Norman Easy, who retired from the military and served two tours in Iraq, was flying to China on a business trip. The family was told that he died sometime during the flight.
The family says they signed a waiver that Chinese authorities presented them, agreeing to accept their official account of what happened.
The outside of the Easy house has no holiday decorations, but friends say they thought it was important for the family to at least have some holiday spirit inside their home.
Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy was among those who delivered a Christmas tree to the family. Gifts were also donated to the children.
Former NFL stars Wesley Walker and Freeman MacNeil were also there to honor Norman Easy, a big Jets fan.
Easy's 58th birthday would have been on Monday.
