Officials have announced that Southold will be getting more police.
The hires come after police say five gang members shot rival members in Riverhead last month.
A total of five of the eight new officers start this morning, according to Newsday.
In the past two decades, Southold has gone from a quiet rural town to a community with booming tourism and wine industry.
