Officials say a 6-year-old girl from Hampton Bays was allegedly molested by a former Catholic priest who is already on probation for a similar crime.
The girl says she was sexually abused by 50-year-old Brooklyn resident Augusto Cortez.
The alleged victim's family says the girl now has a sexually transmitted disease given to her by Cortez.
They say the abuse happened more times than the little girl can remember over the past two years.
Through an interpreter, the little girl's mother says she saw Cortez, a family friend of 10 years, molesting her daughter on a couch in her Hampton Bays home back in June.
"I heard him jump up and get startled," she says. "He was very scared and afraid and when I walked around the other side he approached the window and in the reflection, I saw him I saw him pull up his zipper. That's when I first knew that he was doing something wrong. I was very shocked."
The family then called the police. They say Cortez was picked up for questioning at Southampton Town Police headquarters, but was let go even though he is a sex offender on probation.
The Brooklyn district attorney says Cortez pleaded guilty to forcible touching and harassment of a 12-year-old girl in 2009, and was sentenced to six years of probation.
Southampton Town Police told News 12 that an arrest warrant has been issued for Cortez in connection with the Hampton Bays case.
However, police say Cortez has apparently fled from his Staten Island home and can't be found.
