Officials say two sisters from Maryland were killed in a fire that broke out at a home in Noyac.
Officers responded to the home on Spring Lane and found it fully engulfed with three people who had escaped the fire.
Officials say the two sisters, identified as 19-year-old Lindsay Weiner and 21-year-old Jillian Weiner, were unaccounted for and believed to be inside the home.
Fire departments responded to the scene to extinguish the fire. Firefighters located the sisters inside the home. They were transported to the hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
"It was chaotic - several fire departments were putting out the fire - they were able to contain the fire in and douse it out..." says Lt. Susan Ralph, of the Southampton Police Department. "It's heartbreaking for the families and it's tough on the first responders as well."
The girls' father, mother and brother were transported to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. They were identified as 60-year-old Lewis Weiner, 52-year-old Alisa Weiner and 23-year-old Zachary Weiner.
Police say Zachary Weiner was forced to jump out of the second-floor window.
Lewis Weiner attempted to go back in to rescue his daughters, but the flames were too intense.
News 12 Long Island has learned the family was renting the home for vacation and is from Potomac, Maryland.
People in nearby Sag Harbor say they are also renting homes nearby and feel for the family.
"That's so scary - I can't even imagine - you come here to have a good time, you would never think about something like that could happen," says Kristen Saltzberg, of Pennsylvania.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire. They believe it could have started near the kitchen area but are not sure if it started inside or outside.
