An Oceanside teenager placed fourth today in the prestigious Siemens Competition, which recognizes excellence in math, science and technology.
Blake Smith was honored for his research on new treatments for lung cancer, which he became passionate about after both his grandparents were diagnosed with the disease.
"For them and my family as a whole, this is definitely a big win and the highlight of our lives. It definitely means a lot to me," Smith said.
Blake and his research partner won a $30,000 scholarship. LI student to vie for top prize at Siemens Competition
